Adult Program
All adult classes are categorised according to ability. You can self assess your particular playing standard by using the descriptions on both the adult weekly and adult class programme lists or refer to the ITN (International Tennis Number) Ratings card that is listed under the ITN icon on the home page.
During the initial period of the club re-opening and with all playing standards being self- assessed, coaches running any of the adult coaching classes and weekly programmes may from time to time advise members to relocate to other groups according to their playing ability.
The adult programme is made up of adult weekly classes and adult group coaching. Weekly classes are drop in sessions, bookable on a weekly basis and comprise of both complimentary and fee paying sessions. Classes are a commitment for the duration of the half term and are either 5,6 or 7 weeks in duration.
BEGINNER 1 (ITN 10.3) This course is aimed at people who have played little or no tennis at all. It covers the fundamentals of hand-eye coordination, technique and execution of both forehand, backhand and serve. The goal of the course is to get players to serve, rally and play.
ADVANCED BEGINNER ( ITN 10) This player is now learning to play simple points with a greater level of consistency on groundstrokes. This series of lessons will address control of the ball in respect of height, depth, direction, speed and spin.
IMPROVER 1 (ITN 9) By the end of this series of lessons players are aiming to build rallies of 5 shots or more either cross court or down the line. Players will be able to direct the ball to a target off the serve and begin to influence the ball on the next shot by use of height, speed and spin.
IMPROVER 2 (ITN 8) Players are now developing skills to recognise factors that can affect the oncoming ball, and as a result are able to move into position to sustain rallies easier.
INTERMEDIATE 1 (ITN 7) This course introduces the ability to play shots from different areas of the court. It also focuses on building points tactically on both serve and return.
INTERMEDIATE 2 (ITN 6) Having built a solid foundation for playing points, this course will introduce the concept of playing shots at and around the net. We will also address the notion of spin on second serve.
ADVANCED (ITN 5) Players that have graduated to this level, now have dependable strokes, including depth and directional control on groundstrokes. This course aims to build on the basics of net play covering lobs, overheads and approach shots through the game of doubles.
