Fun Activity Sessions
These sessions will be themed activity sessions which will be advertised once the programme has launched – Activity Sessions may include sports hall games, parachute physical play, dancing, art and craft or quizzes and games……anything goes!  Come along to these launch sessions to get to know the team and make new friends.

Club Night Activities
These are complimentary weekly classes offering a range of activities which change every week, and can include everything from relay races to circuits and skill class tasters through to free style activities.  An ideal opportunity to meet friends at the club and have a regular club night which is just for you!

Structured Class For Babies / Pre-schoolers
Riverside aims to provide a number of activities under one roof for their youngest members to participate in and get to know other members.  Courses start as young as possible and parents are encouraged to inform the club of any specific class or activity they would like to see run at the Club.  Please keep checking the Club notice board for new course information.

Ballet
Ballet classes ranging from Pre-School onwards taught by RAD qualified Instructors.  Ballet classes are suitable for children with little or no previous experience who will work towards achieving grades.

This is a 30 minute class to introduce very young children to ballet movement and musicality and will revolve around imaginative themes and stories whilst introducing some basic steps.

This class is a progression from the above ballet class, involving more steps retaining plenty of imaginative ideas.

R.A.D. Pre Primary:
The children in this class are starting to work towards their first assessment. There is an emphasis on creativity whilst the basics of classical technique and discipline are gently encouraged.

R.A.D. Primary:
The next stage on from pre-primary, with more emphasis on technique. Children will work towards the R.A.D. Primary exam.

R.A.D. Grades One, Two, Three And Five:
Children joining these classes should have passed the preceding R.A.D. exam i.e. Primary, Grade One, Grade Two and Grade Four respectively. They will focus on classical technique and work towards exam level.

Ballet Syllabus:
We follow the R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance) syllabus, which includes all aspects of classical ballet and the appreciation of music. Children will be taught how to enjoy movement within the disciplined form of ballet by a fully qualified and registered teacher and will be entered for examinations, as they become ready.

Riverside Shukokai
Robin has been studying Karate for more than 25 years and currently instructs over 700 students at 18 clubs in West London.  His clubs are registered with the English Karate Governing Body. (For more information see www.londonkarate.co.uk)

What Is Shukokai Karate?
Shukokai Karate is a very progressive style which teaches a pupil to strike an opponent with their body weight. Regardless of size, Shukokai has something to offer you. It also incorporates many locks, throws, escape moves and pressure point striking which is ideal for ladies self defence.

Method Of Instruction:
Robin instructs in a firm but gentle manner emphasising self-discipline and hard work.  Students advance at their own pace and not in comparison to others.  A student who is slow may be rewarded for his or her endeavour, in the same way as a more nimble team-mate may be rewarded for speed and ability.
Good manners, self discipline and respect for parents and teachers is encouraged in Robin’s method of instruction.

Dress Code:
Children should wear appropriate clothing for karate sessions.  Correct karate attire can be ordered through the karate teacher.  New students should wear a T-shirt and jogging pants to their first class.

General Guidelines

- Children are required to wear appropriate clothing.

- Jewellery is inappropriate and should not be worn.

- Long hair must be tied back.

- Young children must go to the toilet prior to the commencement of a class.

- No food or drink is allowed in the studio and particularly no chewing gum.

- All children should be dropped off on time to ensure they receive the full value of the session.  It is also important that they are collected on time from the studio, as it can obviously be distressing for a child should their carer be late.

- Although we appreciate carers like to watch their children in action, we request that they refrain from doing so from outside the studio whilst the class is in progress.  It can be distracting for the child and disruptive for the class in general.

- All children should be changed in the allocated changing areas.  Under no circumstance should children be changed in the studio or corridors external to the studios.

- It is important for insurance and indeed safety reasons that no one enters the studio with out a qualified teacher / staff member in attendance.
